Inside The "North Korea" of Africa : How It Really Is ()

You may not have heard of this country, but perhaps you’ve seen it by another name: “the North Korea of Africa”. But that doesn’t quite tell the full story. There’s nowhere like Eritrea in Africa, or in the world for that matter. It’s a place where everyone must serve in the military, a place where most people have never used the internet, and a place where people have to stay in their lane, or else. But it’s also a country of extremely friendly and welcoming people. It’s very safe, you can walk any street in the country without a care in the world. And it’s extremely beautiful—while also remaining relatively undiscovered by the outside world. This was one of the trips I was most excited for. It took almost 2 months to secure the visa, but once I got it, I was on my way to Asmara, the capital.
